Exercise Stress Test

This test determines how well your heart functions when it is working harder during exercise. While walking on a treadmill, your heart rate, blood pressure, electrocardiogram (EKG or ECG) and symptoms are monitored. If you are unable to walk on a treadmill, a medication (dobutamine) is used to increase your heart rate. This method is often used for women who may have trouble reaching their target heart rate on a treadmill.
